De eerste twee jachtjes kregen deze benamingen in de negentiende eeuw, maar ze bestonden al eeuwen daarvoor als werk boot waarmee de boer naar zijn land ging of als bijboot van een koopvaarder. Het boeierjacht was al in de 17 eeuw populair. Maar ze werden ouderwets, zeilers wilden moderne kieljachten. Gelukkig zijn er altijd \u2018gekken\u2019 die van oude spullen houden. Ze kochten deze oude bootjes, knapten ze op, haalden oude tradities als admiraalzeilen uit de kast en richtten in 1955 een behoudsorganisatie op Stichting Stamboek Ronde en Platbodemjachten. Dit alles werkte aanstekelijk, scheepswerfjes verdiepten zich weer voor de houtbouw voor restauratie en nieuwbouw. Dankzij de welvaart vaart er nu een grotere vloot houten rond- en platbodem rond dan ooit.
